The Altius Alliance is keen to offer places for the SCITT 2017-18 cohort.
The History department has a large range of resources and offers a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students. We have three history classrooms, access to IT rooms and a set of iPads for use in the classroom. We have five dedicated members of teaching staff that teach across all three key stages with additional Admin and CSA support.
Across KS3 students are taught by subject specialists. We study a range of topics including The Battle of Hastings, Significant Tudors, The History of Manchester, Terrorism in the 20th Century and the assassination of JFK. At GCSE we follow the OCR Modern World History B and at A Level we follow the AQA syllabus studying both British and Russian History. The popularity of our subjects, in terms of student take up at KS4, has increased year on year currently having ten KS4 groups. Successful uptake of the subject has seen the department continue to develop students and prepare them for University life.
We have welcomed many trainee teachers and will continue to do so in the future. We work closely with Manchester Metropolitan University and Manchester University and as a school have been involved in School Direct since 2012 – when the scheme first started. Last year we delivered tailored History SCITT placements.
