Science

The Altius Alliance is keen to offer places for the SCITT 2017-18 cohort.

Cheadle Hulme High School Science Department is a large team of 20 staff, comprising of four physics teachers, seven biologists, three chemists, a health and social care teacher, four technicians and a Learning Support Assistant. All KS3 and KS4 science rooms are located on one site and consist of eight laboratories and three classrooms. We also have three preparatory rooms and an office. In addition to the KS3 and KS4 laboratories, we have three laboratories and a preparatory room in the Sixth Form Centre.

We deliver a traditional and challenging KS3 curriculum over three years and students are taught where possible by subject specific specialist teachers from Year 8 onwards. At KS4, all our students take OCR Gateway GCSE Core and Additional Science or Separate Sciences. Over 50% of sixth form students take an A Level in Science, all of which use the AQA exam board.

We always welcome Associate Teachers into our Science department and last year had four Associate Teachers under the SCITT programme. The team of Science teachers at Cheadle Hulme High School are collectively involved in planning and implementing pedagogy sessions for the Associate Teachers. These sessions take place at least three times each week and enable Associate Teachers to not only improve their own subject knowledge, but also to learn about how content and skills can be taught and made accessible to the students, from highly skilled and experienced members of the science department.
