After fully researching the options open to me to complete teacher training, I chose the SCITT course with Altius as I felt this would harness and enhance the experience I had already amassed during my time as a teaching assistant. With a specifically tailored course, the Altius certainly boosted my confidence for beginning my classroom training.
Following successful completion of the course, when a teacher of English position came up at Cheadle Hulme High School I jumped at the opportunity. I was thrilled to be offered the role and being awarded ‘outstanding’ at the end of my teacher training course was the icing on the cake!
After completing my NQT and RQT years at CHHS, I jumped at the chance to work at one of our new schools, Laurus Ryecroft. Coming from Tameside myself, I saw this as a perfect opportunity to help to establish a brand new school in an area in need of an excellent education. Assisting in the creation and establishment of a school from its genesis has been a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am thrilled that I can give something positive back to my local area by means of a Laurus education.
It has been a great thrill to be able to bring some of my own interests and passions into the classroom at Laurus Ryecroft through the positive promotion of creativity and expression. As I have been teaching Drama alongside English, the Trust’s drive on the increased promotion of culture, creativity and rhetoric is something I am very passionate about and I enjoy helping culturally disenfranchised students to thrive in, but most importantly enjoy, the arts.
